INDIA STANDS WITH FARMERS

The government of India (GOI) and the Indian Tobacco Board (ITB) have rewarded farmers in both the Andhra Pradesh and Karna-taka growing areas by increasing the authorised FCV crop sizes. This, despiteincreasing pressure on India as a signatory to World Health Organisation's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO, FCTC) and criticism from the anti-tobacco lobby. FCV tobacco farming communities in India are also meeting challenges of their own, assisted and encouraged by improvements in prices fetched at state auctions.
