In early June, the Senate Agriculture Committee approved a bipartisan farm bill by a 20-1 vote and indications are that the Senate could vote on the bill after the Independence Day recess.The Senate bill maintains the current no-cost sugar policy also contained in the House bill, but Senators Shaheen and Toomey are expected to offer the "sugar farmer bankruptcy bill," or some iteration thereof, when the bill goes to the Senate floor. Yourleaders are working with Senators Cassidy and Kennedy to line up sufficient votes to defeat the measure. I urge you to contact your Senators directly to remind them of our need for champions who will whip their colleague for votes rather than simply casting a single vote and calling it a day.
