摘要

East Africa's Stone Age culture has been known for a very long time. As far back as the mid-19th century, Charles Darwin identified Africa in general as the continent where human evolution began. Darwin introduced not only the concept of human biological evolution but also other related disciplines of study including archaeology, emphasising how Africa was the key to this knowledge. One has only to look at the publications, The Oxford Handbook of African Archaeology (2013) edited by Peter Mitchell and Paul Lane, and African Archaeology: A Critical Introduction (2005,2007) edited by Ann Brower Stahl, to realise that indeed the African story of human evolution and archaeology has continued to grow and has deservedly received an enormous amount of attention historically, theoretically and methodologicallv.
