A FEW MONTHS AFTER I graduatedfrom veterinary school back in1992,1 was sitting in front of my brand-new-to-me (but used-to-someone-else) IBM PS/2, kitted out with OS/2 and a sporty 3.5in floppy drive (Google it, kids). What I was most excited about was the fact this computer had a serial port, allowing me to connect it to an external printer (modems would arrive later). At the time, the emphasis in veterinary practice was on using the workstation to print out invoices and vaccination records; I was interested in using it to change a tradition.
