Like many fabricators, the staff at Technique Inc., Jackson, Mich., dealt with a persistent dilemma: continue using traditional storage racks or invest in an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS). A specialist in rapid prototyping and low-volume production, the company has a metals inventory that is varied more than most: It keeps a stock of material in thicknesses from foil to Vi inch in dozens of ferrous and nonferrous alloys.
