Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows Receive turn Suden/Hellebrandt, Horvath, and Strand Professional Opportunity Awards to Attend EB 2017

The APS Women in Physiology Committee (WIPC) selected 53 awardees from a pool of 94 trainee applicants for their outstanding EB 2017 abstracts and their contributions to the research. Each awardee received $500, a recognition certificate, and EB 2017 registration reimbursement. The top-ranked awardee, Jamie Hijmans (University of Colorado-Boulder) was named the Fleur L. Strand Awardee and received $1,000. The two highest-rated underrepresented minority applicants received the Steven M. Horvath Award ($500 each); the 2017 Horvath awardees were Gwendolyn Davis (University of Mississippi Medical Center) and Steven D. Romero (University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center). All awardees received biography cards with information about each of their named awards (Caroline turn Suden/Frances A. Hellebrandt, Steven M. Horvath, and Fleur L. Strand). Committee chair Caroline Rickards presented the awards during the APS Business Meeting to the trainees listed below.
