摘要

THE Crimean peninsular was finally evacuated by the British Army on 12 July 1856 and they left behind over 130 cemeteries with nearly 600 monuments scattered over an area measuring about twelve miles east to west and eight miles north to south. Fortunately an inventory of many of the tombstones, together with the inscriptions, was recorded by Captains John Colborne, 60th Regiment, and Frederic Brine, RE, prior to the evacuation and this publication remains an invaluable resource as all but a handful of the memorials that survived into the 20th century were destroyed during World War 2.
