Steam Bubble Cavitation in Heater Tubes

A strong pitting corrosion can be caused by the phenomenon of cavitation. When steam bubbles implode, very high pressure variations on the material can occur, resulting in a pin-sized to larger holes causing subsequent leaking of steam heater tubes.
