Cutner and the Coal Balls - The Development of Flatters and Garnett's Coal Ball Peel Slides

A collection of microscope slides is described; these are trial slides of acetate peels of fossil plants from coal balls, prepared by John Cutner who is thought to have been an employee of Flatters and Garnett in the 1950's. The slides include an experimental series and were presumably prepared when Cutner was sent to learn the technique from its instigator, Professor John Walton of the University of Glasgow.
