摘要

In his book 'Achievements in Optics'[1],Albert Bouwers described a range of optical devices based on the principle of a concave spherical mirror combined with an achromatic correcting lens. The spherical aberration of the mirror is compensated by the achromatic lens without introducing false colour, and this lens is positioned at a distance from the mirror to give a corrected field of view. A plane folding mirror is arranged to give access to the image. These devices were developed in Holland during WWII, and published after the war. They included cameras, telescopes and microscopes, and have the advantage of a well corrected image from relatively simple components. The history of reflecting microscopes is given by S. Bradbury [2] and K. W. Keohane [3].
