Hospital admission and discharge rates in several countries are showing decrease in incidence of amputations. Once patient has ulceration, the risk of re-ulceration is high. Once patient has amputation, likelihood of subsequent amputation is high. Mortality following amputation rises steadily but is largely related to comorbid conditions and age.
