Preventing HIV in women: a top priority in China's efforts in fighting AIDS.

Women's biological, social, and economic vulnerabilities to HIV have been well documented in the global literature since the beginning of the HIV epidemic (Turmen, 2003). However, the risk of HIV infection and transmission among women has not been reduced in many developing countries most affected by the epidemic to date (or projected to be so in the foreseeable future). One such country is China, where the HIV epidemic is still steadily increasing (Ministry of Health, UNAIDS, & WHO, 2010).
