摘要

Volker Debus and his friend Horst Baeueriein. embarked on a south-east American road trip in search of its floral woodland treasures.During the tertiary period the areto tertiary wood covered the north of North America and the north of Eurasia as a connecting band. Some descendants of these woods can be found as survivors in the deciduous woods of east North America, eastern Asia andwestern Europe. While the ice ages erased many floral elements from that time in Europe, because of its unfavourable geomorphological conditions, in east Asia and eastern North America many more plant taxa survived due to a different earth surface structure.
