Eradication of predatory and undesirable fishes from ponds is an importantoperation in any fish culture practice. So, removing of the predatory and weedfish from nursery and stocking ponds is a necessary part of good managementin fish culture. Various methods are used for this purpose. The most effectivemethod is to use the fish poison of plant origin (Augusthy 1979), Chowdhury etal (1981), Ameen et cd. (1983, 1987), Latifa et al. 1987, 1988, 1992). InBangladesh efforts were made by research workers to substitute the expensiveDerris root powder through the preparations of some other indigenous plants. Itis essential to find out an ideal fish toxicant from the herbal sources whichwould improve the current status of our fish culture. Keeping this view in mind,the present study on the piscicidal activity of the dry roots of Nerium oleanderwas initiated.
