Control of Environmental Pollution: Management of City Solid Wastes Through Incineration and Electricity Generation

摘要

About 2,500 tons of solid wastes are generated in Dhaka City every day. Quality of these wastes in respect of higher heating value, physical and chemical composition and combustion characteristics have been studied and compared with the values of those of U.S.A., developed countries and India, for installation of waste based electrical energy power plant. The wastes of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) contains 50-70% moisture, 6.02-26.06% Carbon, 1.20-3.53% Hydrogen, 0.46-1.62% Nitrogen, 0.00-0.02% Sulfur, 13-33% Ash and 1386-2600Btu/lb calorfic value on as recived basis. On the basis of the quality of the wastes of DCC it is thought that it might be possible to set up waste based incineration power plant in or around Dhaka City.
