East Asian mills are trying to hold on to their plate prices despite increasing pressure from shipbuilders seeking discounts due to sluggish orders for conventional vessels. “We have no margin in plate and we are not able to further reduce prices,” a mill source told CRU Steel News. Base prices of ship plate range from $690/t to $715/t, with some major mills having lowered offers by a nominal 2% on the month for June deliveries, conceding to pressure from shipyards.
