摘要

Bangladesh, a developing country, is confronted with a multitude of problems, including shortage of animal protein. Fish is the staple protein source for majority of its population. However, lack of feed is adversely affecting its fisheries, especially the hatcheries. Considerable work has been done in BCSIR Labs., Dhaka on agricultural use of local aquatic weeds and algae. Use of aquatic weeds and algae as livestock and poultry feed supplement has also been reported from BCSIR. However, except for attempts to grow the unicellular green algae, Chlorella, in natural media, nitrogen - fixing blue green algae in biogas effluent medium, no other report was found on production of algae in simple inexpensive culture media, for production of much required feed-supplement in Bangladesh. The present study Was therefore undertaken with a view to developing a simple inexpensive technique for easily culturing local mixed algae, to be used as feed supplement in hatcheries for rearing fish fry.
