摘要

India's iron ore mining sector lost out while there were gains for steel producers in the budget which finance minister P Chidambaram presented to Parliament on 28 February. Despite fervent pleas by the miners, he did not reduce the export duty on iron ore shipments. “The mining industry's main demand for reduction in export duty on iron ore has been completely ignored,” said R K Sharma, secretary general of the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI).
