UK gardens are a unique habitat for wildlife. One reason for this is due to their high plant diversity, in particular the proportion (more than half) of plant species not native to Britain. The Plants for Bugs experiment, inspired by the Wildlife Gardening Forum and carried out by the RHS, aimed to inform gardeners on planting native and non-native plants for wildlife. It ran at RHS Garden Wisley from 2010, as a trial across two sites, each with 18 3 x 3m (10 x 10ft) beds.
