摘要

Blasting in mining operation is being carried out from long time back. Today technology has turned blasting what was once an art into a science as conducting blasting in a systematic manner involves a lot of science & technology and play a crucial role in cost optimization as it impacts the efficiency of the entire downstream mining process.The main emphasis in use of technology in blasting is to make best use of explosive energy and there is a huge potential for technological innovations in blast designing to get desired fragmentation, muck profile & throw with controlled ground vibrations, noise, fly rocks, air blast, dust & fumes.This paper is a case study at Bailadila Iron Ore Mine(BIOM), Kirandul Complex, a unit of NMDC Ltd under ministry of steel, Government of India where a lot of innovation has been done in terms of optimizing blast design by using latest technologies such as High-speed video camera, Burden finder, in hole explosive VOD recorder, seismographs and other innovative ways. The paper highlights the marked improvement in powder factor at desired fragmentation, muck pile profile, ground vibrations, reduction in noise & fly rocks etc. The results were meticulously registered in the field and clearly depict improvement in blast performance in terms of powder factor which ultimately resulted into reduction of blasting cost and fulfillingenvironmental parameters & safety standards.
