Utilization of Brick Kiln Dust and Rice Husk Ash for the Manufacturing of Cement Bricks

摘要

Brick kiln plants have been generating large amounts of brick kiln dust. The manufacturers have been facing difficulty for its disposal. The rice husk ash generated from the rice mills has also been causing environmental problems in their surroundings. In this study, geotechnical properties like specific gravity, liquid limit, plastic limit, plasticity index and particle size analysis of these waste materials were determined to know their suitability for brick making. Ordinary Portland cement was used as an additive for the preparation of cement bricks. The wastes were mixed in different proportions to find out the suitable proportions. The prepared bricks were cured at different curing periods and their compressive strength was determined. The results indicated that a suitable proportion of mixture for the preparation of cement bricks can find a suitable method for the disposal of brick kiln dust and rice husk ash.
