BACKGROUND: Asphyxiated neonates often have multi-organ failure with myocardial dysfunction and renal insufficiency. Previously we demonstrated that doxycycline (DOX) improved cardio-renal function after hypoxia-reoxygenation (HR) in an acute neonatal swine model. We aimed to examine whether the cardio-renal protective effects of DOX persisted in a surviving model of neonatal HR.
