CARDIO-ONCOLOGY WORKSHOP: LANDSCAPE OF CARDIO-ONCOLOGY IN WESTERN CANADA

BACKGROUND: Cardio-Oncology is a rapidly expanding field of practice for cardiac nurses and provides the opportunity to challenge current understanding and management of cardiac conditions within these highly complex individuals. Additional cardiotoxic agents are continually being recognized and cardiac nurses need to be aware of the implications of treating cancer patients with traditional cardiac medications and interventions. Cancer patients may present differently, may experience different side effects, and may be precluded from receiving certain therapies on the basis of active malignancy.
