BACKGROUND: Intensified hemodialysis is associated with regression of left ventricular (LV) mass, which is an established surrogate endpoint for adverse cardiovascular events. Compared to LV ejection fraction, LV strain allows more direct assessment of LV function and is emerging as a powerful prognosticator. However, it is unclear whether intensified hemodialysis improves LV strain. We sought to assess the impact of in-centre nocturnal hemodialysis (INHD) on global LV strain (radial, circumferential, and longitudinal) and torsion (the twisting motion demonstrating circumferential-longitudinal shear) by cardiac MRI.
