摘要

In a complex, fast paced healthcare environment providing new staff with a comprehensive orientation is integral to healthcare provider satisfaction and patient outcomes. This is especially true when entering the specialty area of critical care. At the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute (Maz), Registered Nurses (RN) without intensive care experience are enrolled into a four week provincial program consisting of theoretical and clinical components and exams. Although a general introduction into critical care is important, it does not support the level of information required to care for patients in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU).
