A field experiment to study the effect of pre-emergence herbicides on yield and quality of Sugarcane was conducted on adsali sugarcane variety CO-86032 (Nira) during 2000-2002 at Post Graduate Institution Farm, M.P.K.V., Rahuri. The treatment comprised of pre-emergence herbicide application of atrazine (2.5 kg a.i. ha-1), oxyflurofen (0.45 kg a.i ha-1) alachlor (2.0 kg a.i. ha-1), pendimethalin (0.75 kg a.i. ha-1), fluchoralin (2.5 kg a.i. h~(-1)) and two control as weed free and weedy. The oxyflurofen pre-emergence herbicides treatment @ 0 45 kg a i. ha-1 has significantly increased the cane yield (121 02 MT ha-1) over the other herbicide treatments. Herbicide treatments did not show any beneficial indications on the cane juice quality parameters.
