Vale sticks to carrier strategy, but accepts pricing change

Brazil's giant iron ore miner Vale says it will maintain its strategy of reducing freight costs to China by continuing to use very large ore carriers (VLOC) similar to the one which almost sank in a Brazilian port this week. The 400,000tdw Vale Beijing was due to depart from Ponta da Madeira on its maiden voyage when a crack was discovered on its hull (CRU Steel News 7 December 2011).
