Mills bent on improving wire rod margins

Strong global demand for wire rods used in industrial products has given East Asian mills a reason to lift prices by $35/t this month, shedding away the weakness seen in the trade for the past few months. Major mills have priced their wire rod at between $785/t and $790/t cfr, and rebar at $750/t cfr. “We have to raise our profit margins from the industrial sector, especially bolts and nuts which command higher prices for value-added products than construction items,” an East Asian mill source told CRU Steel News.
