Glorious contribution by respected Shri. J.P. Mukherji to the sugar industry

It would indeed be an Herculean task to take stock of the yeoman services rendered by Shri J.P. Mukherji for the advancement and prosperity of the sugar industry in India. This is just a modest attempt towards this endeavour. The practice of generating electric power for a sugar factory by using bagasse is quite old, but the new technology to maximise power generation by utilising available bagasse and to make the surplus power available for other purposes was pioneered by Shri Mukherji since 1940at Walchandnagar. Such a project did not exist at that time even in Hawaii. The surplus power was successfully utilised for ancillary1 industries like Walchandnagar Industries Ltd. workshop, distillery and for irrigation of sugar fields. The co-generation of power was in vogue at Walchandnagar till the factory was shifted to Indapur in 1980. Everybody in this field now realises the importance of co-generation and a number of factories are generating extra electric power for export. The experience and technology developed by J.P. Mukherji & Associates Pvt. Ltd., in this regard is worth all the praise.
