Indian steel makers call for cut in coking coal duties

Indian steel makers are pressing the government to reverse a 2.5% duty recently imposed on coking coal imports because of the current shortages of the raw material in the country. They are hoping to convince the finance minister to encourage more imports rather than penalise importers. The steel makers are hoping to use steel industry groups to get their message across to New Delhi after they were taken aback by a surprise increase on import duty in the recent budget. Coking coal imports previously had no duty.
