A Strangulated Cecal Volvulus through the Foramen of Winslow, a Rare Presentation of Internal Herniation

The common causes of large bowel obstruction are traditionally from a mechanical obstruction like a mass, internal hernia, volvulus, or stool impaction. Internal hernias themselves are also not uncommon, presenting after previous surgeries, bariatric procedures, band adhesions, and volvulus. However, what is less frequent is an internal herniation through the foramen of Winslow. They make up approximately 8 per cent of bowel obstructions, but there is very little data on a cecal volvulus through the foramen of Winslow causing obstruction. To our knowledge, Puig et al. and Morioka et al. have the only reported case of a cecal volvulus through the foramen of Winslow. We present a patient who suffered from a cecal volvulus, which herniated through the foramen of Winslow.
