Amvac takes over Bayer's tribufos

The US agrochemical company, American Vanguard (Los Angeles, California), has acquired Bayer CropScience's cotton defoliant, tribufos, which Bayer sells as Def. The move consolidates Amvac's position with the active ingredient, following its purchase of the tribufos-based cotton defoliant, Folex, from Bayer in 2002 (Agrow No 403, p 2). Bayer was forced to divest Folex as one of the conditions of its acquisition of Aventis CropScience as Bayer and Aventis were the only suppliers of tribufos at the time.
