Scrap prices in Turkey look set to strengthen on the back of higher activity and better sentiment in the market. Buyers have been paying higher prices for US material in recent days while European purchases of 80:20 have been stable at around $360/t c&f or just over. The upward movement in US offers has little to do with strike action at Isdemir's blast furnace, which some believed may lead in the mid-term to increased scrap consumption by EAFs as they sought to cash in on needed flats production while Isdemir's stocks dwindled.
