EU stainless experiences upward pressure

A combination of stockholders destocking at the end of year and downward movement in the alloy surcharge (AAF) has led to a drop in December's effective stainless steel sales prices across Europe by around ?100/t versus November's. But simultaneously mills have maintained base prices and in some parts of northern Europe have even managed to see through increases in that element of pricing which will officially come into effect on 1 January. Some producers are said to have already applied the rise in December transactions.
