Japanese steel output plunges on year

Despite rising by 2.7% from the previous month, Japanese crude steel production slumped 10.6% on the year to 8.63mt in January, dropping for the fifth month running. With the strong Yen and fallout from severe flooding in Thailand hurting exports, output plunged by double digits for the first time since October 2009.
