Mahyco cuts India GM seed price

Monsanto's Indian seed joint venture,Mahyco Monsanto Biotech (MMB),is to reduce the price of its genetically modified insect-resistant Bollgard II cotton.Mahyco and other seed companies that hold licences to the technology,including Ajit Seeds,Krishidhan Seeds and Nuziveedu Seeds,have agreed to offer Bollgard II cotton at prices not exceeding Rs 1,000 (23) per packet of seed for the 2007 kharif (winter) season.Bollgard II cotton was sold at around Rs 1,400 per seed packet in India in the 2006 season,reports Agrow's local correspondent.
