摘要

The torsion behavior of a three-dimensional (3D), 4-directional braided composite shaft was investigated using digital image correlation (DIC) and acoustic emission (AE). The 3D, 4-directional braided composite shafts with various braiding angles were prepared using vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM). The torsion experiments were performed on a static torsion machine. The 3D DIC and AE were used to capture the surface deformations and the acoustic emission characteristics of the shaft. The full-field 3D deformations and the AE characteristics were obtained, and the failure mode and mechanism of the 3D, 4-directional braided composite shaft were analyzed. The results will have an important role in the design and application of 3D, 4-directional braided composite shafts in engineering.
