Hulls of hazelnuts and walnuts as well as sunflower seed husk were shredded to a grain size below 1 mm and washed EtOH in a Soxhlet app. for the extn. of lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose. Their content was detd. in the dried exts. in accordance with the relevant stds. A content of moisture, volatile compds., ash, C, H, N, S and O as well as the heat of combustion and calorific value were also detd. The hulls of hazelnut and walnut had a high content of lignin and hemicellulose and calorific value comparable to the parameters of wood raw materials.
