Coated pakaging paper. Part 1. The mechanical and antimicrobial properties

Papers covered with hydrophobic layers (Eurocryl 2080, Ecoprint, Exceval) were coated with Methocel (TM) containing 2% of polylysine or 2% of plant extract solubilizate (PSP) to improve their barrier and mech. properties and antimicrobial activity against E. coli and S. aureus. The coating resulted in increasing burst strength at break and tensile at break of the papers. Hydrophobic Exceval, Ecroprint and Eurocryl coatings decreased water vapor permeability of the papers. Methocel (TM) layer containing 2% polylysine or 2% PSP increased antimicrobial activity against E. coli and S. aureus. The best results were obtained for Eurocryl-covered paper coated addnl. with polylysine-contg. Methocel (TM).
