China/US deal over GM soybeans

China has agreed to accept US certificates confirming the safetyof genetically modified soybeans in an interim deal aimed at allowing the resumptio of US soybean exports to China. Confusion over new GM crop regulations issued by the Chinese government in June (Agrow No 381, p 20) effectively blocked imports of soybeans from the US, where over 60% of the crop is GM.
