EPA assesses 2007 US pesticide use

The volume of conventional pesticides used in the US in 2007 amounted to 857 million lbs (388,735 tonnes), according to recently published estimates by the EPA. That was just 3.6% below the 888 million lbs recorded in 2001 when the EPA last analysed the market (Agrow No 460, p 20). Conventional pesticides accounted for just 17% of the total recorded volume of chemicals used as pesticides, which amounted to some 5,085 million lbs. The remainder comprised mainly disinfectants, biocides and wood preservatives.
