According to preliminary results, Ukraine produced approximately 26.773 mn tons of iron ore over first five months of 2004 including 5.572 mn tons in May 2004. Accretion of production volumes constituted 5 percent versus the corresponding period of 2003. Output of concentrate augmented by 6 percent over January - May 2004, and production of prepared stock expanded by 9 percent. It was produced 3.645 mn tons of sinter and 1.352 mn tons of pellets in May 2004. Volumes of iron ore output export increased by 10 percent in May 2004 against April 2004, while they diminished by 3 percent if compared with May 2003. Export amounted to roughly 1.671 mn tons. More than 186 ths. tons of iron ore output in aggregate was imported to Ukraine in the last spring month. Import of iron ore products decreased by approximately 70 percent versus the figures of May 2003.
