Background: Patient experience is one of the critical elements of high-quality health care, along with clinical effectiveness and safety. Gaining a detailed understanding of patients' experiences of health care can provide insight into patients' expectations, values and preferences and provides a platform to design patient-centred services. Aims: The aim was to conduct a thematic analysis of the free-text comments from the Scottish Cancer Patient Experience Survey 2015-2016.
