摘要

ACA Wellington members met the members of Maritime Archaeological Association of New Zealand (MAANZ) at the floating crane Hikitia. Jack Fry and Ken Scadden showed us the MAANZ conservation laboratory that is located on board. We were shown examples of artefacts that have been collected most notably from a wreck in 1833 on Auckland Islands, and the techniques that are used for keeping them in good condition. Shipwrecks were described as being like time capsules that allow a snapshot of the clothing, tools and tradable goods of the day, which can deliver a lot of valuable information.
