The French council of state, the Conseil d'Etat, has cancelled the March 2012 order of the Minister of Agriculture banning the cultivation of Monsanto's genetically modified insect-resistant MON810 maize. The council took the decision on an appeal against the ban by the general association of maize growers, the AGPM, the French union of seed companies, the UFS, and the national federation of maize and sorghum seed producers and companies, the FNPSMS (AgrowHo 638, p 15). The council advises the government on the preparation of draft laws and decrees and adjudicates on disputes relating to government actions.
