Bayer agrochemical sales up 12% in fourth quarter

Bayer CropScience's crop protection sales rose by 12.3% and by 10.6% in currency and portfolio-adjusted terms to ?1,540 million ($2,055 million at the current rate) in the fourth quarter of 2012. The results were approximately in line with projections. However, sales in the company's seed business fell by 9.6% (-10.4% adjusted) to ?142 million ($190 million) with the combined business' revenues rising by 10% (+8.4%). Annual sales for crop protection were up by 16% (+12.9%) to ?6,741 million. Seed revenues rose by 17.3% (+14.1%) to ?962 million, taking the overall combined business 16.2% (+13.1%) higher.
