Argentina/Brazil lobby China for GM soybeans

The Argentine and Brazilian Ministries of Agriculture have called on their respective office in China to approve more genetically modified crops, principally of soybeans. The Argentine deputy Minister, Lorenzo Basso, and the Brazilian Ministry's agricultural protection secretary, Celio Porto, lobbied for the approval of GM soybean lines in China that are pending authorisation decisions, for which approvals have already been made in their own countries, the Brazilian Ministry says. They emphasised to their Chinese counterparts at a meeting in Beijing this month that they would "not like to wait another year for approval of the application".
