French Minister rejects claims of 'hidden GMOs'

French Agriculture Minister Stephane Le Foil has rejected calls by environmental groups to ban herbicide-tolerant crops that are not genetically modified yet called "hidden GMOs" by environmentalist groups, reports newswire AFP. Ten such groups sent an open letter to the Minister calling for a ban on herbicide-tolerant oilseed rape and sunflower crops. The Minister has reportedly stated that such crops are not hidden GMOs and are developed through mutagenesis. He has rejected any possibility of prohibition. That comes despite the Minister's public stance against GM crops and his insistence on re-imposing a ban on Monsanto's GM insect-resistant M0N810 maize despite the French council of state, the Conseil d'Etat, cancelling a March 2012 ban (see this page).
