Chinese company Jiangsu Kuaida Agrochemical's "new process" for the synthesis of the herbicide, diuron, has passed a provincial Chinese government appraisal, reports the Chinese government department, the Jiangsu economic and information technology commission. The new synthesis technology, which makes use of 3,4-dichloroaniline as its primary material, reportedly reduces the length of the active ingredient's production cycle and the level of investment required in manufacturing equipment. China's annual production capacity for diuron is estimated to be 19,000 tonnes, of which Jiangsu Kuaida accounts for some 3,000 tonnes (Agrow No 642, p 21).
