The South African Competition Commission is seeking leave to appeal the recent approval of DuPont Pioneer's bid to acquire a controlling stake in national seed supplier Pannar Seed (Greytown). DuPont seed subsidiary DuPont Pioneer and the South African company won their own appeal against the decision of two anti-trust authorities, including the Competition Commission, to reject its bid to acquire Pannar as it would have left only two major suppliers in the country, Pannar/Pioneer and Monsanto. That came at the South African Competition Appeal Court (CAC) last month (Agrow No 641, p 3).
